Mission

We, the sisters of the Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority strive to strengthen sisterhood amongst women by providing service and promoting cultural diversity to our members and our community, thus securing the bond of kinship for posterity.

Kappa Phi Lambda exists to further educate individuals about Pan-Asian culture, while keeping our own identities.

We aim for academic excellence, keeping in mind the importance of education and learning as the key to strength, awareness, and fulfillment.

Service

Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority is an organization which prides itself on its sense of commitment to cultural diversity and strong bonds of sisterhood. However, our other primary focus is to offer our service to the community.

Community and culture is largely what has made us the strong and independent women we are today. It is for these reasons that we want to reciprocate and give back to the communities around us. Sisters participate in individual community service events of their choice, as well as those which we support as a whole and unified organization.

Each respective school has also designated at least one local non-profit organization as their philanthropic cause. The sorority predominately focuses on contributing to domestic violence organizations, all the while maintaining its sense of diversity by fundraising for other types of causes of concern.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights declares all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights, including the right to life, liberty, and security of person.

We should all have the rights to be free from hunger, have clothing, housing, and medical services yet these fundamental human rights of Asian American women are denied every day.

For example, they are trafficked into the U.S. for sexual or severe labor exploitation; they work excessively long hours and earn poverty level wages as garment and domestic workers.

Prevailing racist and sexist stereotypes create a perception of Asian American women as inferior, as exotic/erotic creatures, leading to institutionalized forms of oppression, exploitation, and/or victimization.

While domestic violence knows no color, the stereotype that it is part of Asian culture is widely accepted. That makes it difficult for Asian American women, especially immigrants, to come forward and seek assistance.

These are just a few of the widespread yet unacknowledged issues many Asian American women face on a daily basis. As a result, their lives and issues are practically invisible to mainstream America.

Philanthropy

Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority is a growing Asian American interest sorority.

While we celebrate all the Asian countries prospering in America, we also recognize the issues faced by Asian American women.

Despite the independent and bountiful state of this country, our people are slipping through the socio-economic cracks of our government.

Our national philanthropy is about empowering Asian American women by helping them overcome issues from domestic violence, hate crimes, economic injustice, to immigration rights.

The national organization, National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, works on a grassroots level for social and economic justice and the political empowerment of Asian and Pacific American women and girls.

Through national campaigns including legislation reform, media attention, and grassroots movements, they are working on 6 platforms including civil rights, economic justice, educational access, ending violence against women, health, and immigrant and refugee rights.

Kappa Phi Lambda pledges to donate to this national organization which benefits Asian American women. Our goal is to empower women living in poverty, fear, and illness.

Cultural Awareness

Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority strives to emphasize the importance of cultural diversity; not only within our own organization, but also to the universities at which we exist, and outside the community. While we do classify ourselves as a Pan-Asian interest sorority, by no means do we limit membership to those of only Asian descent.

We have sisters from very diverse backgrounds, including French, Korean, Chinese, Latino, Caucasian, Thai, Filipino, Indonesian, and African-American. Diversity is what helps broaden the horizons of thinking. It is for this reason that we always welcome young women of interest from all ethnic backgrounds. Through various workshops and events, Kappa Phi Lambda continuously tries to educate our members, schools, and communities about Asian culture. Likewise, we stress the importance of awareness on events occurring in our society on a daily basis.
